They saw France as Rome, a center of ideas and culture that grew strong. After William III, the main reason for fighting between France and Britain changed. It became more about money, trade, and who would control colonies in the Americas and Asia. These were people who wanted to bring back the old royal family (the Stuarts) to the British throne.

Great Britain was not a single state until 1707, prior to which it was the separate kingdoms of England and Scotland, albeit with a shared Crown and military establishment. In 1801, Britain was united with the Kingdom of Ireland to form the United Kingdom. The period also saw France under the Bourbon dynasty, the regimes of the French Revolution and the First Empire.

The Indian threat, which had been made worse because of the Indian alliances with the French, was significantly reduced, and the Americans in 1763 could feel secure within their borders. From fighting in these wars the Americans gained military experience as well as a sense of strength. Though they were not ready for any sort of union by 1763, they had begun to realize that in serious matters they had more in common with their colonial neighbors than they had previously believed. The two countries remained continual antagonists even as their national identities underwent significant evolution.

He began his career teaching Economics and Business at the Godolphin School in Salisbury, taking up the position of Assistant Head at Headington School in Oxford in 1997. In 2003 he was appointed Principal of Kilgraston School in Perthshire. In 2011, Kilgraston gained national recognition by being named the UK Independent School of the Year. Some people in Europe used to compare Britain and France to ancient cities.

The term was first used by a historian named John Robert Seeley in 1883. Beginning in about 1689, a series of wars swept across Europe and around the world, all of which involved both the British and the American colonies. Those wars were fought all over the globe in some cases, and virtually every one of them saw fighting in America, pitting the British and Americans against their French and Spanish neighbors in the Western hemisphere.

Even though they still had cultural differences, the violent conflicts had ended. This led to wars with the new French Republic and then with Napoleon's Empire. Some historians have included the American Revolution and the wars of the French Revolution that finally ended at Waterloo in 1815 in the period known as the Second Hundred Years War. In any case, all these wars were substantial conflicts that were fought all over the world in some cases.
